Big win against the Chefs

The win expedited the termination of KC Head Coach Haley. From the little I got to see of the game it was a domination from kickoff to gun. So where do we stand now...

Scrapping through against the Bills

After the scrape through win against the Bills, the Jets are still in the race but currently out of the playoff picture.

The schedule ahead looks favorable, but it feels like 10-6 will be the minimum requirement for the playoffs.

Devastating Loss

A lot of it self inflicted with the missed chip shot field goal, fumble and pin ball interception. So how do the NFL playoffs look today...

Can't Wait

What a performance against Brady and the boys at the Razor. Like Bart and company, I can't wait for this weekend.

ONWARD TO THE RAZOR
So the 2010 version of the Jets were able to snatch victory from a game that they would normally have lost, given the 53 seconds left when they got the ball back and needing to score a field goal. It was overall a good performance and has to give all us fans a little hope for the third game against the Patriots.

Just a couple of quick comments. I had a major issue with the call on 3rd and 5 where they tried the long pass to Edwards. In the press conference after the game Rex defended the decision by saying that they were trying to put the game away on that play. What were my issues?

  • The Jets has been running the ball superbly and the Colts were gassed. Pound the ball and it had to be a higher percentage play with probably better odds of a result.

  • The incomplete stopped the clock.

  • Even if it was completed it didn't put the game away, Peyton would still have time and 8 points is a one score game.

  • On the ground even if you didn't make it, you could be closer and perhaps go on 4th

The running game had them to the point they were at, dance with the ..... that got you there.

Hope Brad Smith is fit for the Patriots, but also hope they don't try too much fancy stuff, never seems to work against the Pats.

UGHHHHHHHHH
Impressive performance by the junior squad against the Bills and shows there is some potential depth still on the roster. 38-7 is quite the statement by that squad.

On the other hand the worst possible scenario played out as far as progressing through the playoffs is concerned. Kansas City lose so the Colts with a victory move to the three spot and become our first round opponent. A rematch of last years Conference FInal is a pretty hard ask off the bat. That will be followed by a rested Patriots squad in the Division round, another hard ask.

The AFC playoffs wild card features both wild card teams traveling to teams with lesser records, in fact 3 of 4 wild cards have this situation and the last is tied at 10-6.

MORE AND MORE LIKE '86?
With the Jets now clinching a playoff spot the similarities to the '86 season continue to roll on. Jets will more than likely be the 6th seed and will more than likely paired against the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas...same as '86. For the similarities to continue Baltimore will have to be the division champs so that the Jets can meet them in the next round. After all the Ravens are really the old Browns (I know the history is supposed to stay with the new Browns, but who are they trying to kid?).

The big difference may be that the Jets have no pass rush this year so against the Ravens there is no chance of a roughing call to get the Ravens back in the game...

FIRST WIN IN PITTSBURGH

What a time for the Jets to get there first win EVER in Pittsburgh. With this win the scenarios are very simple to clinch next week....

1) Jets win or tie in Chicago.
2) Jags lose or tie in Washington.
3) Colts lose or tie at Oakland.

The Brad Smith return probably got the team believing and although, overall, it was a spluttering performance, the Jets stopped one of the AFC favorites in their own house.

Now a win should in either of the remaining games should clinch a playoff spot.

PERHAPS IT IS 1986
Well that was disappointing to say the least, and perhaps this season is looking more like 1986. In 1986 the Jets were blown out in their loses, this game they dominated every statistically category except punting. The Dolphins punter stopped field position from being flipped by averaging 59 yards a boot. Coupled with the Santonio Holmes dropped and you aren't going to win these games.

You can't fault the gameplan, I didn't like it much but when they dominated all categories like that you just have to put it on the players, they have to make the plays.

November 1986 Revisited
As I sat and watched the New York Jets being run over by the New England Patriots last night I kept getting flashbacks to that awful night in November of 1986 when a banged up 10-1 New York Jet team went into the Orange Bowl and had their butts handed to them by exactly the same score.

The similarities really end there, 1986 was a veteran team that had a lot of injuries to key players. This team is much younger, but a lot of the same worries are in place. It is hard to bounce back from a loss like that, we did it to the Bengals last year going into the playoffs. Given that the Dolphins will be a lot harder than perhaps they would have been if the Jets have had any sort of showing last night.

Following a should win against the fish then two of the harder games of the season follow and both are on the road. Steelers and Bears. Finishing up at home against the Bills may end up being a must win.

I think Rex can get this team to bounce back and I think that the late loss of Leonhard leading up to the Pats game may have been a bigger loss than people realize. If he had been lost as a result to the Bengals game there would have been more time to plan. As it happened it was a late adjustment.

Realistically the two wildcards should be locked down by the Jets and Baltimore. The other teams in the race start three games back with four to play...

By the way here are the ways that the Jets can clinch this week...

1) NYJ win + SD loss or tie + JAC loss or tie OR

2) NYJ win + SD loss or tie + IND loss or tie OR

3) NYJ tie + OAK loss or tie + SD loss + IND loss
